Question 1: How can I tell If I have animmobilizer problem?
A:If your car will start and run, but shuts off immediately, with the "carin key" symbol lit on the dashboard, then you may have a faultyimmobilizer. An immobilizer delete may help. The antitheft provision ofthe immobilizer shuts off the engine if the car is started without a matchedignition key. (or if there is a problem with the immobilizer systemitself or other components)
There should be a fault code stored in the ECU (P1570 or 17978 fault codeindicates "Engine start blocked by immobilizer")
Question 2: My car doesn't run! Isn't this always caused by theimmobilizer?
A:No. If the car does not start and run at all, then it is NOT caused by theimmobilizer. If the car starts for a few minutes then stalls out whiledriving, it is NOT caused by the immobilizer. If the car runs rough, ormisses and stalls, then it is NOT caused by the immobilizer.
Likewise, defeating the immobilizer will NOT help if the no-start is caused bysomething like a dead battery, out of gas, or a bad ECU.
PLEASE NOTE: If the car does notstart and run at all, then it's NOT IMMOBILIZER related.
Deleting the immobilizer will NOT help if the no-start is caused by somethingsomething other than the immobilizer.
Whatis an immoilizer?
Whenthe immobilizer is working properly, it allows the engine to run if the correctkey is used to start the car. However, a malfunctioning immo makes a carundriveable, because the car shuts off right after it's started!
With a badimmobilizer, the engine WILL START, but WILL NOT STAY RUNNING for more than asecond or two after starting.
Fortunately,there is something called an immo bypass, otherwise as an immobilizer"delete". This reprograms the Engine Control Unit (ECU)immobilizer function, so the ECU ignores the faulty immo. With the immodeleted, the car will run independent of the immobilizer, even if theimmobilizeritself is defective. As these VAG cars age, many carowners welcome will opt to get rid of it, to prevent being stranded.
Other reasons to delete the immobilizer:
- Sometimes you lose a car key, or need to make an extra key for your car. These will also trigger the immobilizer, and the car won't run. Reprogramming at the dealer can be very costly or inconvenient.
- Immobilizer delete lets you add a remote start feature from an aftermarket security system.
- ECU goes bad and you have to replace it with a less expensive used ecu (We can duplicate the data in your original ecu over to the replacement in this case if desired)

Whatabout the immobilizer light on the dash? While the car will run normallyagain, an engine immobilizer bypass won't always fix all the other symptoms ofa faulty immobilizer caused by one of the other components.
For example, the dashboard light may still blink, if the immobilizer problemwas caused by a broken antenna receiver, or a broken transponder in the key ora faulty ignition switch. This is because the actual immobilizer functionis NOT in the engine computer, it is in the dashboard. Immo deleteseparates the dashboard function from the ECU. In other words, althoughthe engine controller ignores the immo input from the instrument cluster, theimmobilizer in the instrument cluster may continue to complain with a flashingdash light.
AUDIA4 Quatro Owners (03-07) If your ECU part number starts with 8E0 theremay be an issue with the car alarm. We can delete the immo, and the car willstart once again. However... after you start it, the horn will honk and theside marker lights will flash for 4 minutes.
This is a car alarm situation that is unique to these Audis.
We can't do anything about the factory alarm with the immo delete.
