Between late 1997 and early 1998, Lamborghini produced a small number of Diablo GT2s. Lamborghini built them with the intention of racing them in the GT2 class for endurance racing. However, when Audi bought Lamborghini, the project was dropped due to development costs. It is also likely that Lamborghini used the GT2 as a base for the GT and GTR Diablo's that came out just a year later.
