Ford faced a severe problem with the 1999 SVT Mustang Cobra in that the engine did not produce the advertised 320 horsepower. Independent dyno testing showed that the engine was producing less than 300 horsepower. Ford had to skip the 2000 model year for the Cobra to bring the current cars up to power and to come up with a fix for future cars. However, the 1999 Mustang Cobra did have some improvements over previous models including a fully indpendent rear suspension. Updated
