Engineers in Chrysler Group’s Performance Vehicle Operations (PVO) tweaked the whip-snapping performance of the award-winning 2003 Dodge SRT-4 model for 2004. Transferring what they learn on the street in their own cars to those coming off the assembly line, PVO engineers have refined the engine calibration of the 2.4-liter intercooled turbo in the 2004 Dodge SRT-4 and boosted the output to 230 horsepower at 5,300 rpm and 250 lb.-ft. of torque from 2,200-4,400 rpm.
As a car created for tuners by tuners, the 2004 Dodge SRT-4 continues to be the second-quickest car in the Dodge lineup, accelerating from 0-60 mph in just 5.8 seconds. Only the Dodge Viper turns in a quicker time.
The 2004 Dodge SRT-4 includes a new NGC3 engine control module with an updated calibration that widens the torque range. The broader range reduces torque drop off, while providing more torque at lower rpm levels for less shifting under normal driving conditions. Larger fuel injectors also have been incorporated for 2004, which increase fuel flow.
In addition to the increased horsepower and torque, the 2004 Dodge SRT-4 features a new torque-sensing limited-slip differential as standard equipment. Developed in conjunction with Quaife, a leading manufacturer well known to performance enthusiasts, this feature provides more traction when accelerating out of the corners, something Dodge SRT-4 customers will put to use on the tarmac. Designed specifically for the T850 transaxle and installed right in the factory, the limited-slip differential builds on Dodge SRT-4’s reputation for including performance parts backed by the company’s full warranty.
New BF Goodrich KDW2 three-season tires also are standard equipment on the 2004 Dodge SRT-4. Developed to match the vehicle’s high-performance suspension and handling characteristics, the new tire’s design and rubber compound provide maximum grip for cornering, accelerating and braking.
To underscore Dodge SRT-4’s performance capability, unique bright pedal pads are a new feature. An optional sunroof package also is available for 2004.
Electric Blue paint replaces Solar Yellow in the 2004 Dodge SRT-4 color palette, which includes Flame Red, Black and Bright Silver Metallic.
Available side air bags continue as a Dodge SRT-4 option.
